The Alternative Art School offers an online Global Residency Program and various art courses, where artists have the chance to work with some of the most visionary artists in the world. Being fully online, the school supports artists from all over the globe, giving them the opportunity to experience an engag- ing, dynamic, and non-traditional way of creating art.
I am Mona Moghadam, a photographer and video artist from Iran. I began my studies in 2006 at the University of Graphics and soon developed a passion for photography. In 2019, my journey took a new direction with the exploration of video art and experimental filmmaking.
I have worked as the art director for two theater institutes and a children’s educational institute. My in- spiration comes from everyday life, human connections, and fleeting moments—sometimes from the grandeur of a Renaissance painting, other times from the simplicity of a subway scene, a paragraph or a sentence from a book, or even a frame from a film. I absorb these elements and find myself with- in them. To understand them better and deeply, I conduct research, read, watch films related to the subject I’m working on, and interview people. These methods help me explore hidden connections and meanings, which I bring to the core of my work. Then, I translate these feelings and insights into visual stories that reflect my dreams, thoughts, and personal truths. My work can manifest in various forms, such as video art, photography, installation, performance, or a combination of these.
For me, art is not just an expression; it is a way of seeing, feeling, and translating the world around me. This journey has no end and is always evolving.
Throughout my journey, I have participated in various projects as a documentarist, video artist, and photographer in France, as well as in exhibitions in the United States (Arizona), the UK (Scotland), and Iran.
Additionally, I have taken part in workshops on experimental filmmaking, documentary photography, directing, and courses on literature, history, and philosophy.
